Dose-dependent responses: a preliminary investigation into the olfactory effects of essential oil concentrations on canine behavior
This new study examined the impact of different doses of this essential oil synergy on the behavior and anxiety of 54 dogs, using the C-BARQ anxiety scale and an ethogram. Four dosage groups (0, 1, 5, or 10 drops) were tested on the dogs' collars. The study found significant effects, particularly at higher doses, although individual sensitivities were noted, with two dogs showing adverse reactions.
Despite some limitations, like the inability to account for the owner's calming influence on the dog and the generalization of statistical data, the study confirms the potential of olfactory environments in reducing subtle anxiety behaviors, suggesting the need for personalized approaches based on the dog's initial anxiety levels and personality.
